Abstract:
PURPOSE:To reduce transmission shock at the time of kick down changing by keeping low speed valve timing when automatic transmission is performed from a low to a high engine speed area through operation of accelerating pedal. CONSTITUTION:An internal combustion engine 1 provided with an automatic transmission 19 has a valve driving mechanism which is adopted to switch low and high speed valve timings respectively suitable for low engine speed area and high engine speed rotation area of the internal combustion engine 1 in respect to at least one of an intake valve and a discharge valve. In the case that an ECU 5 is set to the low speed valve timing, and the change of the automatic transmission from a high speed gear to a low speed gear is detected through operation of an accelerating pedal, the low speed valve timing is kept without output of a switch commanding signal to a solenoid valve 23. Output torque of the internal combustion engine 1 is thus decreased, so that transmission shock at the time of kick down changing is reduced and smooth operation characteristics is obtained.
