Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the durability of a belt laid between a pair of variable V type pulleys installed between a driving shaft and a driven shaft, as for a valve timing controller for an engine.
CONSTITUTION: A cam pulley 12 is fixed at the top edge part of an exhaust side camshaft 10 as driving shaft. An intermediate shaft 38 is installed between the exhaust side camshaft 10 and a suction side camshaft 14 as driven shaft. An exhaust side variable V type pulley 29 is installed on the exhaust side camshaft 10, and an intermediate shaft variable V type pulley 43 is installed on the intermediate shaft 38, and a dowel belt 54 is laid between the exhaust side variable V type pulley 29 and the intermediate shaft variable V type pulley 43. A continuously variable transmission is constituted of the exhaust side variable V type pulley 29, intermediate shaft variable V type pulley 43, and the dowel belt 54. Accordingly, the turning moment transmitted to the intermediate shaft 38 can be transmitted to the suction side camshaft by a turning moment transmission means 59 free from the phase change.
