Title:
VARIABLE CAM MECHANISM FOR ENGINE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS61275515
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To average engine outputs over an operational range, by mounting a movable plate on a cam for opening and closing intake and exhaust valves of an engine, and changing an apparent form of the cam by the movement of the movable plate to thereby change a valve opening time. CONSTITUTION:When an engine is rotated at low speeds, rotation of a crank shaft is transmitted through two timing belts 9 and 10 to a cam shaft timing pulley 7 and a variable shaft timing pulley 8, respectively. Therefore, a movable plate 2 mounted on a part of a cam 1 is positioned in flush relation with an outer peripheral surface of the cam 1, and intake and exhaust valves are opened and closed by the cam 1 through rocker arms. When the engine is rotated at high speeds, the pulleys 7 and 8 are rotated in counter directions, and accordingly the movable plate 2 connected through a gear 6 to a shaft 4 is outwardly moved about a support shaft 5, thereby changing an apparent form of the cam 1 and changing a valve opening time.
