To provide a variable-capacitance element wherein a desired capacitance value which corresponds to a write voltage can be freely set and a capacitance value which has been set before is maintained even when there is no write voltage, and to provide a method for adjusting the variable-capacitance element, a variable-capacitance device and an electronic apparatus.
In the variable-capacitance element 100 formed with a pair of electrodes 101 and 102 with a ferroelectric material layer 103 in between, the method for adjusting the variable-capacitance element includes the steps of: maximizing or minimizing the sum of electric dipole moments of the ferroelectric material layer 103; and in order that the variable-capacitance element 100 has the desired capacitance value, writing a capacitance value by applying a desired write voltage V to the electrodes 101 and 102 of the variable-capacitance element 100 in which the sum of the electric dipole moments of the ferroelectric material layer 103 is maximized or minimized.
