PURPOSE: To enhance the light distribution property and appearance quality of a variable color head lamp for automobile by disposing along the boundary between a multistage reflecting portion formed in the inner face of a reflector and the general portion of the reflector an arm by which a mainlamp filter is moveable.

CONSTITUTION: A pair of parallel arms 17, 18 are put in a turning movement by transmission of a driving force to the arm 17, and then a main lamp 13 is covered by a mainlamp filter 21. Light from the lamp 13 is thereby converted to yellow color via a filter 21, reflected by a reflector 15 and allowed to go out. When the filter 21 is removed from the lamp 13 white light is reflected by the reflector 15 and allowed to go out. In such a case, the pair of arms 17, 18 for driving the reflector 15 are located within the reflection area of light from the reflector 15 and pairs of diagonally extending portions 17e, 18e are both disposed along the stepped portion 15c of the reflector 15 which is the boundary between the general portion 15b and the multi-stage reflecting portion 15a of the reflector, so that the light distribution property and appearance quality of the lamp are enhanced.
