To provide a variable compression ratio engine that can vary the compression ratio with a simple structure.

The variable compression ratio engine includes a combustion chamber 4 formed by a cylinder 2 and a piston 3, a sub-chamber 5 communicating with the combustion chamber 4, and a sub-chamber volume adjusting mechanism 6 adjusting the volume of the sub-chamber 5.
