Abstract:

To provide a compact compression ratio holding mechanism in a double link type variable compression ratio internal combustion engine.

The variable compression ratio internal combustion engine is equipped with an actuator rod 13 which moves in an axial direction with rotary motion of a control shaft 7, a ball screw nut 17 which converts the axial motion into the rotary motion, and a compression ratio change and holding mechanism 20 which is linked to the ball screw nut 17 through the medium of an intermediate gear 18, wherein the compression ratio change and holding mechanism 20 is arranged so that an acting direction of a load F1 acting on the meshing part of the ball screw nut 17 and intermediate gear 18 by actuator rod axial component force Fexh of a load Fex acting on the actuator rod 13 and an acting direction of a load F2 acting on a meshing part of the outer peripheral gear 17a of the ball screw nut 17 and intermediate gear 18 by the component force Fexv1 in a direction substantially orthogonal to the actuator rod axial direction of the load Fex acting on the actuator rod 13 are situated in such a direction as to cancel each other.
