Abstract:

To simplify a lubricant passage structure between a cylinder block and a crankcase in a variable compression ratio internal combustion engine which is configured to change a mechanical compression ratio by moving the cylinder block and a cylinder head relatively to the crankcase.

The variable compression ratio internal combustion engine comprises at least two blocks 2, 3 and 22 connected to each other so as to be relatively movable, and can change the mechanical compression ratio in a combustion chamber by moving one block 2, 3 relatively to the other block 22. One of camshafts 6 and 7 each including a cam driving an intake valve or an exhaust valve to open and close is disposed in the one block, and the crankshaft 4 is disposed in the other block. The internal combustion engine includes a rotation transmitting shaft 5 which transmits the rotation of the crankshaft to the camshaft. The lubricant passage for distributing lubricant between the one block and the other block is formed within the rotation transmitting shaft.
