To provide a variable displacement compressor having a capacity control valve easily adjusting a pressure rising sensitivity of a crankcase pressure to the most suitable sensitivity.
In the variable displacement compressor, the crankcase pressure is varied by adjusting an opening of the capacity control valve for opening and closing a passage communicating between a discharge chamber and a crankcase, to thereby adjust a stroke of a piston. The capacity control valve includes: a valve chest communicating with the discharge chamber; a valve hole; a valve element for opening and closing the valve hole; a pressure sensitive chamber communicating with an intake chamber; a pressure sensitive member disposed in the pressure sensitive chamber; and a pressure sensitive rod, one end of which is connected to the pressure sensitive member, the other end of which is connected to the valve element, and which drives the valve element in response to displacement of the pressure sensitive member. In the variable displacement compressor, the crankcase pressure acts on the valve element in a direction in which the valve element opens from a valve hole side, and the crankcase pressure acts on the pressure sensitive rod in a direction in which the valve element closes from the valve hole side. In the variable displacement compressor, a pressure receiving area Sr of the pressure sensitive rod for the crankcase pressure is set larger than a pressure receiving area Sv of the valve element for the crankcase pressure.
