PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable displacement compressor that can prevent excessive movement of a valve element of a suction throttle valve and can suppress leakage of refrigerant gas to a suction pressure atmosphere through the suction throttle valve.SOLUTION: A variable displacement compressor includes a suction throttle valve 52 for controlling an opening of a suction passage 48 on the basis of a pressure difference between pressure of sucked refrigerant gas and pressure of a control pressure chamber. The suction throttle valve 52 includes: a valve element for controlling an opening of the suction passage 48 by using the pressure of the control pressure chamber; and a valve housing 53 that enables the valve element to slide and has a valve chamber accommodating an energizing member 66 for energizing the valve element in a direction of contracting the opening of the suction passage 48. By controlling the pressure of the control pressure chamber, the discharge capacity of the refrigerant gas is variably controlled. An annular member 75 is provided between a peripheral surface of the valve element and a peripheral wall of the valve housing 53. The annular member 75 causes the movement of the valve element relative to the valve housing 53 to slow.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
