To provide a variable displacement swash plate type compressor which will not make it difficult to conduct inclination angle increasing starting operation of a swash plate from a minimum inclination angle even if the minimum inclination angle of the swash plate is zero.
This variable displacement swash plate type compressor comprises a cylinder block formed with a cylinder bore; a piston inserted in the cylinder bore; a front housing for forming a crank chamber; a cylinder head formed with a suction chamber and a discharge chamber; a suction valve; a discharge valve; a driving shaft extending in the crank chamber and rotatably supported by the front housing and the cylinder block; a rotor fixed on the driving shaft; the swash plate connected with the rotor through a link mechanism and supported on the driving shaft so as to vary an inclination angle and to be slidable; a power transmission device which converts the rotation of the swash plate into a reciprocating motion and transmits it to the piston; and an inclination angle forced increasing means for forcibly increasing the inclination angle of the swash plate from a minimum value.
