When, for example, the picture of a frog 3 is used as a display in a speedometer 1 is used as one example of a display variable meter, the picture of the frog 3 is being displayed while the frog is smiling and quiet if a vehicle speed obtained from the measurement is normal. However, when the vehicle speed exceeds a speed limit, the frog 3 in the picture shows a red tongue 10 from a mouth 8, eyes 9 and the mouth 8 reach an abnormal state, and the entire frog 3 becomes wet with perspiration 11, thus resulting in an abnormal expression and hence giving a warning that the speed exceeded the speed limit.
