Abstract:

To vary the pitches of propeller blades by means of a simple and efficient mechanism.

A plurality of propeller blades 12 are pivotally supported to a hub 14 rotatably mounted on a shaft 16, and two radial pins 20, 22 extending from the outer end of each propeller blade 12 are borne on corresponding rims having permanent magnets arranged on the peripheral edges thereof. The rims are rotated by excitation of the coil of a stator 44 surrounding the rims and drive a propeller, and the pitches of the propeller blades 12 are varied by changing the phase relationship of currents supplied to the stator coil and thus varying the angular relationship of the rims.
