To provide a variable valve gear for an internal combustion engine capable of inhibiting wear of each part in the variable valve gear by a locking pin inserted in a control shaft.
The control shaft 60 is inserted in a support pipe 65 under a condition where the same can reciprocate along an axial direction. A slider gear 70 is fitted on an outer circumference of the support pipe 65 under a condition where the same can reciprocates along an axial direction thereof. The locking pin 80 connects the control shaft 60 and the slider gear 70 through an elongated hole formed on the support pipe 65. The variable valve gear for the internal combustion engine can change characteristics of engine valves based on reciprocating motion of the control shaft 60. The locking pin 80 is inserted in a locking pin insertion hole formed in a control shaft 60, and an inserted side end part thereof is supported by an inner circumference surface of the support pipe 65.
