To suppress noises generated when a shim co-rotates following an output part and abuts on a detent member, and to suppress wear or damage of the shim or the detent member by impact of contact between the shim and detent member.
This variable valve mechanism 1 is provided with an input part 21, the output part 31, and an intermediate drive mechanism 20 driving a valve 6 by the output part 31 when the input part 21 is driven by a rotating cam 10. An interposing part 51 of the shim 50 is interposed between a vertical wall part 5 and intermediate drive mechanism 20, and the engagement part 52 of the shim 50 is engaged with the engaged part 61 of the detent member 60 fixed on the vertical wall part 5, thereby preventing the shim 50 from co-rotating following the intermediate drive mechanism 20. The contact part of the engaged part 61 of the detent member 60 is formed into a slanted surface inclined in the thickness direction of the shim 50 and the contact part of the engagement part 52 of the shim 50 is formed into a curved surface. Thereby, impact is eased when the engagement part 52 of the shim 50 abuts on the engaged part 61 of the detent member 60.
