Abstract:
To perform self-diagnosis of a vehicle more efficiently and reliably than a prior art.SOLUTION: A vehicle control device controls a hybrid vehicle which includes at least an internal combustion engine, an electric motor, and a battery, and which can travel while selecting one of a plurality of modes corresponding to combinations of operational states of the internal combustion engine and the electric motor. The vehicle control device includes: an acquisition unit which acquires an SOC plan for the battery based on estimated travel output, for a travel route from a starting point to a destination point of the hybrid vehicle; a processing unit which controls power generation by a power generator using output from the internal combustion engine according to the SOC plan, thereby causing an SOC value of the battery to follow the SOC plan; a prediction unit which predicts a future assumed vehicle speed of the hybrid vehicle on the basis of the travel route; and a diagnosis unit which performs self-diagnosis on the internal combustion engine when the assumed vehicle speed is greater than a first prescribed speed.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
