In the vehicle control system which has an engine and a motor generator, a transmission body which transmits power from the engine or the motor generator and outputs the power, and the control device which controls the engine, the motor generator and the transmission body, the control device implements mode switching control which switches between a first driving mode with low frequency of engine starting and a second driving mode with higher frequency of engine starting than that of the first driving mode, and transmission control for the transmission body based on a transmission map M in the first driving mode and the second driving mode, and a transmission line (a first transmission line L1) upon P-EV driving using power of the motor generator in the first driving mode is different from a transmission line (a second transmission line L2) upon E-EV driving using power of the motor generator in the second driving mode.
