To provide a vehicle and a control device for the vehicle extending lifetime of a battery and improving operation responsiveness.
A hybrid vehicle 1 includes an engine 2 and a motor generator MG2 for wheel drive. A temperature sensor 24 measures temperature and detects a condition of a battery. A control part 14 controls start and stop of the engine 2. The control part 14 stops the engine 2 and executes EV travel of the vehicle with using MG2 as a drive motor when a condition of the battery is good. The control part 14 starts the engine and prohibits travel under an engine stop condition when vehicle speed exceeds a vehicle speed threshold value X0 indicating a boundary of a zone of prohibition of the engine. Since the control part 14 changes the vehicle speed threshold value X0 according to the condition of the battery, the battery is protected optimally and operation responsiveness is improved in the coldest season when battery performance drops.
