To reduce an operation load for a door opening handle by a structure manufacturable at low cost.

This door latch device comprises a power closer mechanism 27 capable of rotating a latch 16 at a half latch position to an excessive rotating position beyond a full latch position by the power of a motor. The power closer mechanism 27 is started when the door opening handle 13 reaches near a direct coupling position A by a door opening operation when a door is fully closed to rotate the latch 16 toward the excessive rotating position in a door closing direction. When the door opening handle 13 reaches near a disengagement position B, the latch 16 rotated toward the excessive rotating position is released so that the latch 16 can be rotated in the door opening direction.
