Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle drive unit that assures sufficient driving force and that has good mounting property by suppressing the outside dimension in the axial and the radial directions.
SOLUTION: A bevel-type differential mechanism 30 is contained in an output shaft 24 of a motor mechanism 20 housed in a housing 10. A reduction mechanism 40 composed of a planetary gear unit 41 is disposed outside the output shaft 24. An internal gear 43 is fixed to the housing 10, and a sun gear 42 is spline-fitted to the end of the output shaft 24. A carrier plate 48 is spline- fitted to an axially extending portion 31B of a differential gear case 31. A thrust washer 53 is interposed between the sun gear 42 and the carrier plate 48. A snap ring 51 restricts the movement of the sun gear 42 toward axially inner direction. A snap ring 52 restricts the movement of a planetary gear carrier 46 toward axially outer direction.
