Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle drive unit which suppresses the elongation of the vehicle drive unit in an axial direction, and can narrow a mounting space in a vehicle width direction.SOLUTION: A vehicle drive unit comprises two electric motors 2L, 2R, a gear device 30 for distributing torque from the electric motors 2L, 2R to left and right wheels, and a reduction gear for transmitting the torque of the electric motors 2L, 2R to drive wheels. The gear device 30 is composed of two pieces of three-element two-freedom planetary gear mechanisms which are obtained by being coaxially combined with a pair of left and right intermediate gear shafts 13L, 13R having input-side outer gears 13a. An idler gear 70a is arranged between an input gear 12a and the input-side outer gears 13a of the intermediate gear shafts 13L, 13R to which torque from the input gear 12a is transmitted, and a diameter of the idler gear 70a is regulated so that a distance from centers of motor shafts 5a of the electric motors 2L, 2R up to the gear device 30 is set longer than a distance from the centers of the motor shafts 5a of the electric motors 2L, 2R up to an end part of a stator 6 of the electric motors 2L, 2R in a radial direction.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
