Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of erroneous alarm by altering a detection area by laser light according to a radius of curvature of a turning path in running on the turning path from the detection results of a steering sensor.
CONSTITUTION: In a turning path, an alarm judging area, namely, an area for detecting whether a vehicle exists or not ahead is changed for an area for detecting no reflector of a guard rail by laser beams 16a, 16b and 16c. This means that alarm judging areas S1, Sc and Sr of the laser beams 6a, 16b and 16c are changed according to a radius of curvature of a road which is determined based on a steering angle detected by a steering sensor. It should be noted that the alarm areas of the laser beams 16a, 16b and 16c can be determined from a relationship between the radius of curvature of the road and the judging areas obtained previously. Moreover, when no steering angle is inputted, a command is provided to a laser radar unit from a control unit to detect an object ahead in a detection area the same as that of the straight travelling state.
