To provide a vehicle headlamp of projection type capable of forming selectively a low-beam light distribution pattern suitable for normal driving and a low-beam light distribution pattern suitable for high speed driving by moving a light source.
The light source 22a is constructed capable of moving between a reference position located on an optical axis Ax on the rear side than a rear focus F of a projection lens 28 and a front movement position located at the front side than the reference position. Further, an additional reflection face 24a1 consisting of an ellipsoid of revolution having the central point B of the light source at the front movement position as a first focus and the rear focus F as a second focus is formed at a prescribed portion located at the lower side than the optical axis Ax in the reflection face 24a of the reflector 24. Thereby, when the light source 22a moves to the front movement position, the reflected light from the additional reflection face 24a1 is converged at the rear focus F and the central luminous intensity of the low-beam light distribution pattern is increased and, thereby distant visibility becomes superior.
