To provide a vehicle monitoring system which can record the image by detecting the opening/closing of a door even at the stop state of an engine without applying an excessive load to a battery and can reduce the battery load by not recording even at the door opening time.

The electric power from a battery 7 is always supplied to an electric source controller 15 through a transformer 13. The electric source controller 15 can start a camera 2 and VTR 4 by turning the electric source switches 18, 19 on at the door opening state regardless of the engine state. An image signal treating part 17 detected the door opening can record the image from the camera 2 to VTR 4. Thereby, at the door opening time, the image is recorded to VTR 4 even at the engine OFF time.
