Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle periphery monitoring system that can recognize existence of a target object such as a human being or the like with high precision even when the target object creeps into the background in an image obtained through an imaging device mounted in a vehicle.SOLUTION: In a vehicle peripheral monitoring system 10, an outline C of a high brightness area in a binary image obtained through an infrared camera 102 is recognized by a first processor 11, and a portion satisfying a first requirement which corresponds to the shape of a target object P out of the outline C is recognized as a primary outline portion C. A real space position of the primary outline portion Cis measured by a second processor, and in accordance with whether the measured position satisfies a secondary requirement corresponding to the size of the target object P, it is determined whether the primary outline portion Ccorresponds to a secondary outline portion Cas an outline portion of the target object P.
