To provide a vehicle power unit with an internal combustion engine, being narrow in width and compact, and transmitting power from the internal combustion engine to the wheel through a hydrostatic continuously variable transmission.
The vehicle power unit 1 comprises an internal combustion engine 20 having a cylinder block 25 with the cylinder central axis oriented in approximately vertical direction, and a crankshaft 28, a hydrostatic continuously variable transmission 100 having a swash plate type hydraulic pump 110 and a swash plate type hydraulic motor 130 that are arranged on a same axis, for changing rotation speed of the crankshaft 28, and a variable speed driving shaft 151 for reciprocating a driving member 152 for changing the swash plate angle of the swash plate type hydraulic motor 110 or the swash plate type hydraulic pump 130. The variable speed driving shaft 151 is positioned upward of the hydrostatic continuously variable transmission 100, and parallel with the axis of the hydrostatic continuously variable transmission 100. A plane connecting the axis of the variable driving shaft 151 and the axis of the hydrostatic continuously variable transmission 100 does not cross the axis of the crankshaft 28, and has a sharp angle to the axis of the cylinder central axis of the cylinder block 25 and positioned lower than the axis of the crankshaft 28 to cross it.
