Abstract:

To provide a compact vehicle power unit in which a space for routing an exhaust pipe can be reduced while avoiding thermal damages on a torque converter by the exhaust pipe.

A vehicle power unit includes: an engine E having a crank case 10 for supporting a crankshaft 25 disposed along a front-rear direction of the vehicle and a cylinder block 11 disposed to stand on an upper surface of the crank case, in which an exhaust pipe 22 connected to a cylinder head 12 in an upper part of the cylinder block extends once forward the cylinder head, then returns to extend rearward after passing over one side of the cylinder block 11. A torque converter 31 is connected to a rear end of the crankshaft 25; and an oil cooler 53 for cooling oil supplied from an oil pump 48, 49 to each part of the power unit P is mounted on a rear case cover 29 joined to a rear end face of the crank case 10 to cover the torque converter 31.
