Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved powertrain wherein a fuel cell supplies power to a pair of motor/generator units interconnected by a planetary gearset to establish drive connection with a transmission output shaft.
SOLUTION: This vehicle powertrain 16 includes a fuel cell power source 20, an electronic control unit 42, and an electrical energy storage and a retrieval assembly 22, which are interconnected to communicate electrical power. The powertrain 16 also supplies driving power to a transmission output shaft 24, supplies driving power from the shaft 24 to vehicle drive wheels, an also supplies power to a power take-out drive unit 28 such that a cooling airflow and hydraulic power are supplied to a vehicle.
