Abstract:
To provide a vehicle steering unit capable of accurately estimating damping force of a vehicle in a vehicle loaded with a rack assist type power steering system.
The vehicle steering unit for assisting steering by giving assist force to a rack 52 provided in a steering power transmitting system estimates damping force of the vehicle based on axial tension of the rack and a displacement of the rack (S14). Since damping force can be estimated with a phase by torsion of a steering shaft 3, damping force can be accurately estimated in a vehicle provided with a rack assist type power steering system.
