To suppress excessive increase in an oil temperature in an automatic transmission due to reduction in cooling performance caused by reduction in airflow volume resulting from presence of a preceding vehicle during follow-up traveling.SOLUTION: During execution of follow-up traveling control, a high-oil-temperature determination value THs is variably set on the basis of information (an inter-vehicle distance Dis and a projected area Apr) on a preceding vehicle affecting airflow volume. Meanwhile, an oil temperature THoil in a transmission part is detected, and when it is equal to or higher than the high-oil-temperature determination value THs, a high-oil-temperature-time shift map M2 is selected, so that a high-speed-side gear stage is frequently used. As a result, rotational speeds of respective parts of the transmission part (automatic transmission), including an input rotational speed, are reduced, and heat generation caused by the stirring of oil is suppressed, so that increase in the oil temperature THoil due to reduction in cooling performance caused by reduction in the airflow volume during follow-up traveling is suppressed. In other words, it is possible to enjoy a fuel-economy improvement effect because the preceding vehicle acts as a windshield during the follow-up traveling, thereby reducing traveling resistance, and to suppress excessive increase in the oil temperature THoil caused by the reduction in the airflow volume.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
