Title:
VEHICULAR HEADLAMP
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3943260
Kind Code:
B
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set a light distribution pattern for low beam to be a light distribution pattern with a cutoff line and to sufficiently ensure visibility of a the upper part before a vehicle during high beam running, in a vehicular headlamp constituted so that beam switching between the low beam and the high beam is performed by vertically tilting a reflector by a given angle.
SOLUTION: An upward polarizing prism 40 projecting substantially vertically downward from the upper side of a reflector 20 to the periphery of a height position of the top edge of its reflecting surface 20a is provided near the front part of a front end opening 20d of the reflector 20. In switching from a lower beam to a high beam, part of deflected light from the reflecting surface 20a is made incident on an upward deflecting prism 40 interlocking with upward tilting of the reflector 20, and part of the beam is reflected radiated near the part above a cutoff line by deflecting and transmitting action of the upward deflecting prism 40.
