Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicular internal combustion engine which does not need the equipment of a rocker arm 4 with an extreme cutout part or the like for avoiding any interference with a drive shaft 15.SOLUTION: An internal combustion engine to be transversely carried on a vehicle comprises a double link type piston crank mechanism composed of a first link 8, a second link 12 and a rocker arm 4. A crankshaft 3 is positioned laterally of a cylinder 1, and the first link 8, the second link 12 and the rocker arm 4 are arranged generally in a U-shape, and a drive shaft 15 extending in the vehicle width direction from a transmission passes between the first link 8 and the second link 12. When two tangential lines L2 and L3 parallel to a straight line L1 joining the two ends of a swing locus C2 on the side of a first connection pin 7 and contacting with the drive shaft 15 are drawn, a fulcrum O1 of the rocker arm 4 is positioned within a range interposed between the two tangential lines L2 and L3. Thus, there hardly occurs any interference between the drive shaft 15 and the rocker arm 4.
