To maintain high strength against a large load involving a shock by providing a bumper formed to have each of three or more shock contact surfaces positioned approximately on the same line.
When a vehicle equipped with a bumper collides with a collision object such as another vehicle, a shock load F due to the collision acts on shock contact surfaces 64 on top 61 of the bumper. In this case, as the shock contact surfaces 64 are formed at a plurality of positions along the same line 68, the shock load F evenly acts on each shock contact surface 64. As a result, a load comes, to evenly act on each of a plurality of joint bodies 60. Thus, the deflection curve of the bumper via a critical load becomes smooth, and buckling does not take place, thereby ensuring the freedom of a bumper cross sectional form from expansion.
