The vehicular starter device 10 drives a starter motor 12 having a plurality of brush pairs which are independently conducted by the power of a battery 14, and starts an engine. A switch 32 and a switch 34 to selectively conduct only the selected brush pairs out of the plurality of brush pairs are provided in a current path of the battery 14 and the starter motor 12. A controller 18 controls the opening/closing of the switch 32 and the switch 34 based on temperature information input from an engine water temperature sensor 20.
