To provide an inexpensive vehicular steering wheel detecting a neutral position of a driving shaft by an absolute position detecting device capable of coping with a vehicle of a large steering angle and preventing the neutral position of the driving shaft to be detected from easily changing with the lapse of time.

In this vehicular steering gear, a potentiometer 41 has a lever 41a engaging with a groove 19d provided in a rod 19, and a predetermined dead zone (h-t) exists in the engagement of the groove 19d and the lever 41a. A controller detects the neutral position of the rod 19 by reciprocating the rod 19 at least once for just a predetermined amount, detecting a width of the dead zone from a relative position of the rod 19 detected by an encoder 25 and an output of the potentiometer 41, driving the rod 19 until the output of the potentiometer 41 becomes a value indicating the neutral position of the rod 19, and correcting the position of the rod 19 by only half of the width of the dead zone from that position.
