To provide a vending machine that efficiently detects a user face by reducing the number of matching operations.
A computer of the vending machine detects a user's face by template matching of images captured by a camera. If a lower edge of a patch is on or above a first horizontal line N times in a row at face detection, the computer limits the subsequent face searches only to an upper area. If an upper edge of the patch is on or below a third horizontal line N times in a row at face detection, the subsequent face search is limited only to a lower area. If neither the above condition is satisfied even if face detection is performed M×N times, and if (γ+δ3+b)≤Y/2 is satisfied, the subsequent face search is limited to a central area. If (γ+δ3+b)>Y/2 is satisfied, the subsequent face search is performed in all the area.
