Title:
VENTILATED ION CHAMBER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2930513
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To discriminate the nuclear species of different energies including a β-ray nuclear species by applying a voltage to a collecting electrode disposed at the center, an inside ion chamber and an outside ion chamber, and measuring an ionized current while making gas flow in the electrode and the chambers.
CONSTITUTION: A coaxial cylindrical inside ion chamber 2 constituted of a casing made of a conductive substance is provided in such a manner as to surround a collecting electrode 3 disposed at the center. The casing of the inside ion chamber 2 is used as a current collecting electrode, which is surrounded by an outside ion chamber 1, where a distance between the electrodes are different. Gas flows in the outside ion chamber 1 through the inside ion chamber 2. At the same time, a voltage is applied to the current collecting electrode 3 and the casings of the ion chambers 1, 2, respectively. Consequently, the gas can be ionized, and ionized currents of the respective ion chambers 1, 2 are measured by ammeters 6, 7. As a result, it is possible to discriminate the nuclear species in radioactive gas according to the magnitude of energy on the basis of the difference in the measured current value.
