Abstract:
PURPOSE: To minimize delay time between the transmission of signal from a control means to a valve and the actual change of base part pressure by installing a pressure converter for measuring the pressure of base part gas and inputting the signals showing the base part pressure to the control means. CONSTITUTION: An exhalation phase is started by the opening of an exhalation valve 30 and the timing is decided by a controller 26. When the exhalation valve 30 is opened, gas inside the lungs of a patient 14 is automatically discharged to the atmosphere. The exhalation valve 30 is closed when the patient finishes exhaling. This ventilator 10 is provided with a positive final exhalation pressure mechanism so as to make an operator able to set how the pressure level of the base part gas is to be at the end of each respiration. During exhalation, the controller 26 compares the actual base part pressure with a predetermined pressure level, and when the base part pressure reaches the predetermined level, the controller 26 sends the signal 32 so as to make the valve 30 be closer to a closing position. Then, the controller 26 controls the position of the valve 30 in terms of a closed loop so as to maintain the actual base part pressure to be equal to the predetermined pressure.
