To provide a vertical shaft driving apparatus which can achieve large output power by efficiently utilizing an air flow or a water flow.
The vertical shaft has four rotary blades 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d equidistantly arranged in the peripheral direction about its central shaft 12, and can rotate about the central shaft. The rotary blades have flat plate shape blades 10. In the respective rotary blades, the blades are arranged such that the direction of the blade planes are tilted with respect to the radial direction from the central axis, and the imaginarily extended planes of the respective blade planes perpendicularly cross the blade planes of the rotary blades neighboring with the blade planes of the rotary blades in the rotational direction. The blades provided on the respective rotary blades are arranged such that the inside end edges of the blades are arranged so as to separate from the neighboring blade planes. A fixed blade portion (B) is provided around the cylinder portion (A), in which the four rotary blades 8a, 8b, 8c, 8d turn, such that a plurality of guide vanes 30 for introducing the air flow or the water flow into the rotary blades by straightening the flow are equidistantly arranged in the peripheral direction.
