PURPOSE: To provide a rolling mill for piercing and elongating of a solid billet with which roll adjustment and exchange are easy.
CONSTITUTION: This rolling mill has an open top and an open interior formed by a plurality of vertically extending mill posts and interconnecting side portions. A cylindrically shaped bottom cradle 39 for rotatably supporting a bottom roll 32 is inserted into a housing 4 from the top, is supported at an adequate height by means of screws 34 and a balance cylinder 36 and is set in a feed angle by the operation control of jack screws. A rotatable supported upper roll 22 is supported in an upper cradle 20 of a cylindrical shape and is housed in the housing. The upper cradle has vanes 42 having extension parts 40 in the upper part and supporting the weight at the time of insertion and is inserted into the position where the cradle comes into pressurized contact by means of stops 58. The upper cradle rotated by means of a ram and the jack screws of a motor drive type, is installed at an operative position, is adequately positioned by a balance cylinder 28 and is fixed to the housing by means of a clamp.
