PURPOSE: To obtain substantially the same function with a vertical magnetic head provided with an erasing head by providing a thin-film main magnetic pole, an auxiliary magnetic pole opposite across a medium, winding for reproduction provided to the auxiliary magnetic pole, and side magnetic pole 9 which are arranged at both sides of the main magnetic pole successively from the medium side and are shorter in length than the mainmagnetic pole.
CONSTITUTION: The recording magnetic field from the auxiliary magnetic pole is broad during recording, so the recording magnetic field penetrates the main magnetic pole thin film 2 and two side magnetic poles 9. At this time, magnetic flux converges on tip parts of the respective magnetic pole to record a signal on the medium 6. The main magnetic pole thin film 2 and side magnetic poles 9 are magnetized during reproduction according to the magnetism state of the medium 6 and magnetic flux passing through the side magnetic pole 9 neither flows in the winding for reproduction because the winding for reproduction is at distance, nor is detected as a signal. Further, there is a gap between the main magnetic pole thin film 2 and side magnetic poles 9, so the magnetic resistance at this part is large and the crosstalk between the main magnetic pole thin film 2 and side magnetic plles 9 is small. Consequently, signals of the side magnetic poles 9 which are detected through the main magnetic pole thin film 2 are almost at a noise level.
