PURPOSE: To obtain an optimum sliding state while the contact between a magnetic pole film of main magnetic pole of a magnetic head and a recording medium stably by clipping the recording medium by the main magnetic pole and plural supports so as to move the supports in response to a reproducing output.

CONSTITUTION: The main magnetic pole 11 of the magnetic head consists of the magnetic pole film 11A and magnetic pole film holding members 11B, 11C, supports 18A, 18B provided to clip the recording medium 4 by the main magnetic pole 11 are supported by support plates 19A, 19B and moved horizontally by worm gears 20A, 20B and drive motors 21A, 21B. The supports 18A, 18B are moved through a support control circuit 17 so as to maximize a reproduction output generated in an information input/output winding 13 wound onto the main magnetic pole 11 and to minimize an envelope component extracted by an envelop detector 16. The best point is obtained by adjusting respectively and independently the supports 18A, 18B and the stable and optimum sliding state between the main magnet 11 and the recording medium 4 is attained.
