PURPOSE: To increase reproduced output by providing a high-permeability magnetic layer provided on at least one surface of a base plate and a magnetic recording layer provided on the high-magnetic permeability layer, limiting the film thickness of the magnetic layer and the recording layer and limiting the coercive force in the vertical direction of the recording layer.
CONSTITUTION: A high-permeability layer 7 consisting of a "Permalloy" film, etc. is formed by a sputtering method or a method such as vapor deposition, electroplating or the like and the film thickness thereof is made at least ≥0.6 μm. A magnetic recording layer 8 consisting of CoCr having vertical magnetic anisotropy is provided on said layer 7 by using the sputtering method or the method such as vapor deposition or ion plating in the same way as for the layer 7 and is formed to ≤0.3μm film thickness. The coercice force Hcl in the vertical direction of the film is made to attain between 250W500 oersted. A head 9 which performs recording and reproduction by traveling in contact with said recording medium is disposed in proximity to the surface of the layer 8.
