Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide a required damping effect for a thrust bearing at the lower shaft end of a vertical rotary machine by determining a specific clearance between a lower thrust bearing and a thrust disc and forming an oil-tight side wall around the periphery of the lower thrust bearing. CONSTITUTION:A thrust disc 5 is attached to the end of a lower shaft 3 of a vetical flywheel device and a lower thrust bearing 6 opposed to the disc is provided on a bed plate 8. An oil feed passage 12 running in the lower thrust bearing 6 opens in the face of the thrust disc 5. In the thrust bearing designed as above, a clearance l1 between the lower thrust bearing 6 and the thrust disc 5 should be assumed much greater than an expansion l2 of a shaft 3 caused by a rise in temperature. An oil- tight side wall 14 is provided around the periphery of the lower thrust bearing 6. Only by controlling the mounting task, the machine can provide a required damping effect, while a feed oil amount remains little, and in addition a viscous friction loss may be kept low.
