PURPOSE: To effectively spend the energy of a coal material to the maximum limit, to largely reduce a coal material unit, to eliminate the trouble of a shelf- hanging, and to control the C quantity of melted metal by providing a movable valve for controlling the charging area of an iron source in the charging tube of an iron source disposed substantially at the central upper part of a vertical scrap melting furnace.
CONSTITUTION: An iron source and coal material are charged in a vertical scrap melting furnace by shortening the time in which oxidative gas such as the air is brought into contact with the coal material 3 by charging the iron source at the center and the material 3 to be distributed at the periphery to substantially completely spend the energy of the material in the furnace, thereby reducing a coke unit. The charging sectional areas of the source 2 and the material 3 can be altered by a movable valve in the tube of the source, the coke unit can be regulated and the C quantity of the melted metal can be controlled. That is, the gas exhausted out of the furnace is mostly CO2, and the latent heat discharged out of the furnace can be reduced.
