PURPOSE: To prevent the development of fault in a cast slab and to improve the quality of the cast slab by arranging a hollow cylindrical body made of heat insulating material at upper part of a water cooled mold, inserting a heating device in the wall thereof and arranging an electromagnetic stirring device on the outer circumferential side.
CONSTITUTION: The hollow cylindrical body 2 is connected with the upper part of the water cooled mold body 5 having cylinder-shape through a coupling part 8, and the heating device 12 is arranged in the cylindrical body 2 having tapered shape in the inner face and made of heat insulating material. Further, the water cooled jacket 3 is brought into contact with the outer circumference of the cylindrical body 2 and the electromagnetic stirring device 15 is arranged at the outside thereof. The molten metal poured in the hollow cylindrical body 2 from a nozzle 16 of tundish 3, is supplied into the mold 1 through a molten basin part 20 with large quantity of molten metal and surely filled up. Therefore, the development of fault of shrinkage hole, crack, etc., in the cast slab is prevented, and as the electromagnetic stirring action becomes effective, the segregation and surface roughness of the cast slab are eliminated and the quality is improved.
