PURPOSE: To enable approach of the distance between a slab end surface and an exothermic heat insulating plate by making warp of the exothermic heat insulating plate itself small.
CONSTITUTION: At the furnace walls 2b of both right and left sides in the longitudinal direction of a furnace body 2, the exothermic heat insulating bodies 5 having vertical axis are arranged. The exothermic heat insulating body 5 is constituted of a water cooling pipe 6 composing a supporting body and an exothermic body composed of seven metal plates vertically piled. In each metal plate, a through-hole vertically penetrating the center part is formed. The through holes in the piled metal plates are loosely inserted with the water cooling pipe 6 having vertical axis and the lower end part of the water cooling pipe 6 has a flange 6a which becomes a stopper for preventing the dropping of the metal plate.
