To provide a vertical type roller mill capable of making a pulverization roller and a pulverization table stably bite an object to be pulverized even when a moisture content of the object to be pulverized is not suitable.
In the pulverizing method using the vertical type roller mill, the object to be pulverized fed to the vertical type roller mill from the outside is firstly sorted to a normal object N to be pulverized having a particle diameter less than a predetermined first particle diameter and a bulky object M to be pulverized having a particle diameter of the first particle diameter or more. Nextly, while the normal object N to be pulverized is fed onto the rotating pulverization table 22, the pulverization table 22 and the pulverization roller 23 are made to bite the normal object N to be pulverized to perform pulverization. Then, when the generation of a biting failure of the normal object N to be pulverized between the pulverization table 22 and the pulverization roller 23 is detected during the pulverization step, the bulky object M to be pulverized is added/fed onto the rotating pulverization table 22 and a mixture of the normal object N to be pulverized and the bulky object M to be pulverized is bitten between the pulverization table 22 and the pulverization roller 23 to perform pulverization.
