PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a verticality checking device for a steel pipe pile, which checks the verticality of the steel pipe pile in a very easy and correct manner.
SOLUTION: The verticality checking device 1 for the steel pipe pile includes a cover member 2, a bottom plate 3, a reference wire rod 4, and a deadweight 5. The cover member 2 is mounted on a pile head 100a of the steel pipe pile 100 targeted for checking. The bottom plate 3 is mounted in a portion of the steel pipe pile 100, in the vicinity of the tip 100b of the same. The reference wire rod 4 is stretched between the center of the bottom plate 3 and the center of the cover member 2. The deadweight 5 freely falls from the cover member 2 to the bottom plate 3. After penetration of the steel pipe pile 100 into the ground, the deadweight 5 is detached from the cover member 2, and allowed to freely fall in the steel pipe pile 100. Then by measuring a time lag from the time the deadweight 5 falls to the time sound is generated caused by contact of the deadweight 5 with the steel pipe pile 100 or collision of the same with the bottom plate 3, or by distinguishing whether the generated sound is contact sound or collision sound, the verticality of the steel pipe pile 100 is checked.
