PURPOSE: To obtain a vertically and horizontally running elevator by horizontally mounting a cylinder on a bottom part of a cage frame elevated up and down in an elevating path, inserting a plunger into a fixed hole provided at a lower part of an opening on the carriageway side and holding a level through supporting a weight of the cage moving on the carriageway side and the cage frame side.

CONSTITUTION: A cage frame 3 is elevated up and down in an elevating path 1, and a cage 11 mounted on the cage frame 3 is elevated up and down and moved into a carriageway 6 for running. A cylinder 17 is horizontally mounted on a bottom part of the cage frame 3, and its plunger 18 can be inserted into a fixed hole 10 provided at a lower wall of an opening of the carriageway 6. And the plunger 18 is inserted into the fixed hole 10 by driving of the cylinder 17, and the cage 11 is carried in or out of the cage frame 3 in this state. Thus, change in weight of the cage 11 to the cage frame 3 is received by insertion of the plunger 18, and a difference in level between the cage frame 3 and the carriageway 6 due to change in weight is not generated but the cage 11 can run smoothly.
